School Behaviour & Rewards Policy

At St Francis Xavier School we expect good behaviour. Pupils and staff have a right to come to school to learn and work in safety, free from fear of negative behaviour towards them.

It is important that all pupils know what is expected of them. This policy aims to set out what acceptable and unacceptable behaviour at St Francis Xavier looks like.

The policy should give all staff clear systems and guidelines to apply. The focus will be on quality first teaching, rewarding pupils for their efforts and achievements and sanctioning the behaviour, not the child.  Clear and consistent sanctions will be applied to any child who chooses not to abide by the school’s expectations for their behaviour.

The most important aspect of the policy is the rewards section. This seeks to celebrate the tremendous efforts made by pupils at St Francis Xavier both in and out of the classroom. It is important that the efforts and achievements of ALL pupils are recognised, not just the gifted and talented or the small minority who choose not to behave well. A consistent approach to the awarding of rewards is as important as the use of sanctions.
