The mentoring schemes in school offer an additional level of support for students. Wether that is reaching a level of confidence -using the peer mentoring scheme- or reaching their academic potential -using the teacher mentoring scheme.
Although some students are added to the mentoring scheme earlier on in their school career the majority of students requiring additional support are assigned a mentor to help them through their final year at school. Mentors work with students to improve their time managment, encourage a positive attitude to study and to develop strategies to help them deal with challenges; skills that will help them through school and beyond.
The mentors work with 3 to 4 students on a 1 to 1 basis using feedback from the students teachers and the individuals to develop strategies for improvement. the mentoring scheme runs alongside a rigorous revision and intervention programme set to help the students in year 11 as they approach their GCSEs.
