The role of the Local Governing Body (LGB) is to challenge and support the leadership of our school.
At St Francis Xavier the LGB play a key role in shaping how strategy translates into policy and practice. From September 2021 a link governor(s) oversees each of the following areas
- Safeguarding
- Quality of Education
- Pupil Premium
- Leadership and Management
- Careers
- SEND
- Personal Development
- Behaviour and Attitudes
The link governors meet with members of staff, parents, and pupils to gain a deep understanding of each area and triangulate findings before reporting back to the wider LGB.
Governors also take part in an annual ‘Immersion Day’ in school which focuses on key priorities.
The LGB is a subcommittee of the St Margaret Clitherow Trust board.

I was born and brought up in St Patrick's Parish, Middlesbrough, and am a loyal Middlesbrough FC supporter. I spent seven years at Durham University (King's College, Newcastle), the last two years as a member of staff.
I joined ICI Billingham and spent the rest of my working life with the Company. During this time I worked in the USSR, USA, in a number of UK locations, and eventually at ICI's Headquarters in London as Group Vice President responsible for safety, security, health and environmental affairs world-wide. On my return to Middlesbrough I joined the Diocese as Financial Secretary and was involved in both local and national church matters.
I have been a school governor for many years in primary and secondary schools in the Dioceses of Middlesbrough and Lancaster.
I have two children - Clare, who works for J P Morgan and John Patrick who attended SFX school, and who works for the National Australia Bank in Melbourne. John and his wife Nat have two children, Thomas and Tessa.
I have an OBE for services to the chemical industry in the UK and Europe and a Knight of St Gregory for services to the Catholic Church.

Sarah Everitt
My name is Sarah Everitt and my son and daughter currently attend St Francis Xavier School.
As a practising Catholic along with my husband and 2 children I was asked by Fr Michael Loughlin if I would be interested in taking up the role of foundation governor, which is a new experience to myself.
In taking on this role, my objective is to continue the good work of previous generations of staff and governors in order to provide today's students with the rounded education they need to succeed and face the challenges ahead of them.
I fully believe in the values and ethos of St Francis Xavier School and I am committed to be part of the journey; ensuring pupils and staff are the best they can be.
I am a paediatric nurse and have worked on the children's ward at North Tees Hospital for 23 years. I look forward to using my skills and experience with working with children to help support and contribute to the school and local community.

As the Anglican Rector of Richmond it is my privilege to be an ex-officio governor at our unique school. The joint Roman Catholic and Anglican ethos enables the school vision to be realised with vibrancy. Having been in parish ministry for over 20 years I have served in Richmond since 2018. I am committed to playing my part in enabling the school to offer a consistently high quality of education and to encourage the personal growth of each student.

I worked in primary schools in Lancashire, Derbyshire and Somerset for many years as a class teacher, supply teacher and in-school tutor of maths and English to children needing catch up or extension activities.
I attended church schools as a pupil, as did my three sons. I moved to the Richmond area in 2020; I love it here and look forward to becoming part of the SFX community.

30 years ago I joined the family firm. Or that's what it felt like at the time; I come from a family that includes 12 teachers. I fought the calling for two years but the force was too strong. So here I am 30 years later still as passionate, if not more, about doing what is best for the children in our schools.
In terms of experience I have had a varied career working in roles both in and for schools, as a classroom teacher, an LA Advisory Teacher, a Numeracy Consultant and for the past 12 years a Headteacher.
As Headteacher I have worked in a variety of schools. Some have been classed as failing and been turned around. Another with Enhanced Mainstream Provision for Behaviour, a situation that brought its own unique challenges both good and bad. I was also the Headteacher of a rural school forced to close due to a falling roll, working with a community devastated by the loss of their school.
I am passionate about children. It's not just about the service we provide but the future we provide for the young people in our schools today and our country. Not since the 1940s has the future been so uncertain and we need to equip the prospective leaders of industry, commerce and families with the skills to make the right decisions for their communities and society as a whole.
